woah! i just watched an absolutely marvelous film. it’s Labyrinth. ok, it’s an old film, made in 1986. but it rocks! i’m like, speechless. it’s cool. it was made by jim henson and george lucas and stars David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. it’s a fantasy story. the goblin king – jareth (david bowie) ‘kidnaps’ sarah’s (jennifer connelly) baby brother and sarah has to get him back. to do so, she has to reach the goblin city in 13 hours, going through the goblin king’s labyrinth. along the way, she meets creatures and such and have adventures.
one of the really intense lines was when jareth tells sarah: “I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave.” omg! the desperate romantic in me just comes out to play. there is a slight romantic thing going on, but it’s like an ironic romance. jareth apparently is in love with sarah and he does absolutely what she wants him to – she wanted to get rid of her annoying little brother, jareth takes him away; she wants a romantic and fantastical life, he brings her to his labyrinth; she wants to live a theatrical romance, he gives it to her. but she just rejects him and says he’s cruel. *sigh*
i love it cos it’s very fantasy without being overly so. and it tries to teach those cheesy values like friendship without being overly preachy. and i LOVE the ’showdown’ scene between jareth and sarah. remember MC Escher’s Relativity? that picture was recreated into the scene. absolutely magical. just imagine the magic of jim henson’s direction combined with the magic of george lucas’ production. what an impact.
i’m surprised that apparently (according to wikipedia) the movie did quite badly in the box office when it came out. i would have gone to watch it. but supposedly it’s a cult kind of movie among teenagers. and i think david bowie is so sexy in it. *g* anyway, go watch! i give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Wow! I’m quite amazed that you actually watched this movie! I have a divx version, if you’re interested. I loved this when I was growing up, and I revisited it some time last year, when I was doing the downloading thing. It’s a gorgeous movie, and the songs are stick-in-your-mind type. Hahaa! Good catch!
