about magic and illusions.

the exams are finally over! muahahahahaha! El3254 was alright i guess. wrote the most i ever wrote for an exam this sem. 3 pages each essay. which probably isn't much by other people's standards (saw people handing in 2 books). but to me, it's a lot considering my average is usually 2 pages and that's it. haha! a lot of crapping today. that's the problem of having one exam so far apart from the rest. in between you kinda lose the will to get down to proper study and start acting like it's holiday already. anyway, like i said, a lot of crapping today. one thing good about socio-linguistics is that you can always crap your way through. can't hardly do that for structure of whatever modules. anyway, that's that. done with studying for this semester at least. haha!

been youtubing as usual. been watching an old love of mine – david copperfield. been a long time since me and david touched base with each other. lol! anyway, didn't mean to search for him on youtube lah, just came across this link about exposing one of his illusions, in fact, one of his most famous illusions, the one where he flies. gosh i love that illusion. LOVE it. it's so inspiring and cool. anyway, this video was exposing how he did it. well, to me at least, i think it's a really innovative way. i'm not gonna say what it is here. if you really wanna know, go youtube and type “how david copperfield flies” and find out yourself. anyway, to me, finding out the secret isn't such a big thing, i mean, ya, i know now how he does it. but i don't feel like i start to hate him and slam him and say , hey he's a fraud. hello? he's an illusionist. get it? anyway, i still love this illusion and finding out the secret only makes me think of how cool it is that david managed to take something so mundane and transform it into something so inspirational and magical.

something else i saw (watched a few videos). he was doing an interview, one of the few interviews i've seen, probably cos he's so long time ago. anyway, this interview, i guess in interviews, an important person is the host. as learnt in 3254 (haha!! dr lazar should be proud i learnt something) the host is the one who sets the tone of the interview and introduces topics etc. so if an interview is boring, blame the host, he's not doing his job. can tell that david doesn't really talk too much anyway. so david had just done an illusion where a woman goes through his body. so he was like, “so david, how does it feel like to have a woman inside you?” i think you need to watch the video to get the innuendo. anyway. so david's like, “oh ya it's an interesting experience, i do it twice a night.” lol! then there's another line where david makes this comment about the Fires of Passion escape, he says something like…”they tie me up, strap me by my feet by ropes, hang me upside down 10 stories in the air, then they take 100  6 feet tall steel spikes set them on fire below me then they light the ropes hanging me up on fire and i have 2 minutes to escape before the rope burns through and basically i risk my life for your entertainment pleasure, thank you very much.” *cheers from the audience* lol! pure snark. and he's smiling all the way so you know he's teasing. not about the hanging upside down by your ankles from a burning rope over a hundred burning steel spikes thing. teasing about the last bit.

anyway, finally got to watch the Fires of Passion – Amazon Ritual. the one that he was talking about in the interview. i think that this is one of the most stupid things the man can do. i read an interview once where he said that the spikes weren't supposed to be on fire, it's just that, the night before, he decided it would be cool to light them up and up the danger quotient. crazy. i always said, he and david blaine are just competing to see who'll die first. all the crazy stunts that they do. anyway, the Amazon Ritual. that's cool! it's an escape btw, don't know why some people don't understand the word and are still asking what's so magical about him hanging by burning ropes over 100 burning spikes. anyway, cool.

another interesting set of banter that i HAVE to tell is this. now, david apparently loves making fun of his critics. like, once he said, “a lot of my critics say i can't get through a show without a pretty lady, a lot of smoke and wind blowing my hair. today, i'm going to prove to you…that they are right. i've put together an illusion with a pretty lady, a lot of smoke and a fan. i call this illusion…the fan.” lol! anyway, this one. he says, “it's very important when you're doing magic on television to have a live audience. but even if you do, people still ask you the same question. after i made the airplane disappear in front of a live audience, people still ask me, “was that a camera trick?”  and i say “no, that was a jet trick”. then i went to the statue of liberty, made the statue of liberty disappear, in front of a live audience, people really there watching, but people ask me “was that a camera trick” and i say, “no, that was a national monument trick”. then i went to the bermuda triangle, i disappeared into the bermuda triangle in front of a live audience and people ask me, “was that a camera trick”. and i say “no, that was a bad career move”.  but they keep asking me about camera tricks so i figure i'll do a camera trick. would you like to see a camera trick?” and he proceeds to make a studio camera disappear. very funny. go watch the video. lol!

ok, enough with the story telling. hope it helped to destress you a little. muahahahaha!
